We’ll meet in Rome at the Bloom Hotel at 10:00 am and from here get started on our adventure. We’re heading to the Sabina area of Lazio to the village of Casperia, where we’ll be staying in a 15th century palazzo. On the way, we’re going to stop at a winery for a lesson in local, natural wines with our friend Maurizio. Afterwards, we’ll check into our rooms and you’ll have time to explore the quaint medieval village of Casperia before we meet again for our welcome dinner.

Included: Lunch (at wine tasting) and dinner. Rooms for the night of the 3rd are not included but we can help arrange rooms for you.

Saturday, October 5, 2024

After breakfast, we’ll meet up with our nature guide, Lucio, for a walk through the lush countryside. We’ll learn about local plants, both edible and not, and see some Roman ruins. We’ll have lunch with Lucio before heading back to Casperia for some free time before dinner.

Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, accommodations.

Sunday, October 6, 2024

Today is a cooking class day with our favorite chefs Julia and Pino. After breakfast you’ll spend the morning with them learning classic Italian techniques to prepare lunch. In class, you’ll learn skills that you’ll be able to use at home! After lunch we’ll depart Casperia for Tuscany, the area of the Val d’Orcia, specifically Montepulciano. There we’ll check into our villa, complete with a pool. There we can relax and explore the property and enjoy a dinner of antipasti and wines.

Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, accommodations.

Monday, October 7, 2024

We start today with a tour of a local, organic and sustainable farm in the area.  You’ll see how a working farm operates and how they navigate challenges such as drought. The farm provides produce for their very own restaurant and we’ll sample some of their wines and cheese. Then we’ll explore the famed Val d’Orcia with a drive and visit beautiful villages such as San Quirico, Montechiello, and Pienza. The drive between these towns is famed for its beauty and quintessential Tuscan charm. Have lunch on your own in one of the villages and later we’ll have dinner together at one of our favorite restaurants in Montepulciano.

Included: Breakfast, dinner, accommodations.

Tuesday, October 8, 2024

Today’s agenda includes a visit to a local winery for a tour and a lesson in how to pair food and wine. The Sangiovese grapes grown in this area are famed and you’ll have an opportunity to meet winemakers and learn in depth about their character.

Afterwards, we’ll visit nearby villages to further explore the region. Dinner will be at a family restaurant close to our lodging. (If the weather is nice, we can opt for time at the pool, as well.)

Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, accommodations.

Wednesday, October 9, 2024

We depart Tuscany and head to the green heart of Italy, Umbria. There we’ll stay in the charming town of Orvieto. Along the way we can stop at one of our favorite wineries for a tour and to taste local wines and cheeses.

When we get to Orvieto, we’ll check into our rooms and you’ll enjoy some free time to explore the area. Shopping in Orvieto is fantastic! We’ll meet up again for dinner for a lesson in local specialties.

Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, accommodations.

Thursday, October 10, 2024

We’ll take a guided tour of Orvieto, including the famed duomo. Orvieto is full of art and surprises! Then enjoy some free time (we suggest getting tickets to the caves that run underneath the whole village) before meeting up for dinner.

Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, accommodations.

Friday, October 11,2024

Today starts with a visit to a local goat cheese farm which we will tour before tasting the cheese produced by them. After, enjoy some more free time in Orvieto before meeting up for our last dinner together.

Saturday, October 12,

We head back to Rome today but along the way we have one last activity for you! We’ll stop in the town of Bomarzo to see its famed Sacro Bosco, or the garden of monsters! It’s an old park filled with large and unusual stone sculptures. We’ll grab quick lunches before heading back. Near Rome, we’ll drop off our van. If you are leaving the next day, it will be convenient to stay in a hotel near the airport. If you are heading back to the city, we can share transport or help with the train.
